Description

The Andean cat is one of the rarest and least-known cats in the world. This majestic creature lives exclusively in the Andes Mountains and Patagonia steppe, where climates are harsh, and food is scarce. Sadly, due to human factors such as mining, hunting, and unregulated tourism, the Andean cat population is rapidly decreasing—with estimates of fewer than 2,800 remaining today. With their habitat isolated to the high desert of the Andes, land conservation is critical to the survival of their species.

The Payunia Provincial Reserve in Argentina’s Mendoza province hosts a variety of wildlife, including endangered Andean cats. Unfortunately, livestock in the area compete with guanacos for food and water, and their presence has also led to retaliatory killings of cats. To address this, Greater Good Charities teamed up with WCS Argentina through the purchase of ranch land that has been repurposed as a wildlife reserve. So far, they've protected hundreds of thousands of acres in the area.

Your donation today can help Greater Good Charities' and their conservation team, who will be on the ground gathering data on the wildlife reserve and monitoring the species' activity to better understand their needs.
